Norwich's Sargent in furious row with sporting director

Icon

Latest from Your Site News' Anthony Joseph and Rob Dorsett:

It is difficult to see how Josh Sargent can play for Norwich again, Your Site News has been told,  following a heated row between him and the clubs sporting director.

Sargent was called in for a meeting with manager Philippe Clement after the striker told him he wasnt in the right mindset to play for the team.

But sporting director Ben Knapper was already in the room, and we are told a strong row ensued, which ended with Sargent walking out, visibly upset after an alleged remark about his family.

Sources have told us Norwich want Sargent to apologise for his refusal to play, and the door remains open for him to be selected  again if he does so.

But we have been told this latest dispute means the US international will categorically not apologise.

Sargent wants a move to Toronto FC for family reasons, but Norwich will not accept the MLS clubs offer of 15.6m, believing it undervalues their star player.

Sargent has previously refused a much more lucrative move to Wolfsburg, wanting instead to take his family back to his native North America.

Strand Larsen wants PL stay

Latest from Your Site News' Lyall Thomas, Zinny Boswell, James Savundra and Anton Toloui:

Jorgen Strand Larsen wants to stay in the Premier League if he is to leave Wolves.

A lot of clubs from Europes top-five leagues are interested in Strand Larsen but the Norway goalscorer wants to continue playing in England.

Leeds, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have all made inquiries about signing him this month.

Palace inquired about him in December but were put off by Wolves asking price of 40m.

There is increasing uncertainty around Jean-Philippe Matetas future, however, after the 28-year-old told them he wants to leave.

There is still a lot to play out in the striker market, in which Strand Larsen sits high due to Wolves valuation of 40m.

Mateta, for example, is valued around 35m by Palace.

Aston Villa are also thought to be admirers of Strand Larsen but they are unlikely to be able to meet Wolves valuation.

They like Mateta too but money is tight at Villa and they must be conscious of their PSR obligations.

Their current target of Tammy Abraham is expected to be more affordable by comparison.

Beskitas paid in the region of just 13m plus bonuses to sign Abraham permanently from Roma.

Villa are currently in Turkey preparing to play Fenerbahce in the Europa League tonight.

'Paqueta move requires patience' claims Flamengo technical director

Icon

Your Site' South American football expert Tim Vickery on Lucas Paqueta's potential move to Flamengo:

"Flamengo have tried to speed things up this week. With the club president back from holiday, an official big is going in.

"Last night, the director of football, Jose Boto, spoke about this. He expects a deal to be done but he says it's going to need a lot of patience.

"There are two problems. One is the terms of payments which are complex because it's a big money deal. Flamengo have the money, but how do you arrange the terms?

"Also, he let slip in this interview, that West Hame aren't actually convinced that they want to sell."

Arroyo pleased with January signings

Aston Villa Women head coach Natalia Arroyo could hand two club WSL debuts to January arrivals Oriane Jean-Francois and Jenna Nishwonger against Man Utd this weekend, live on Your Site.

Jean-Francois joined on a club record deal from Chelsea, while Nishwonger has made a loan move from Arsenal where she was struggling for game time.

In an exclusive interview with Your Site, Arroyo said: "We were following Jenna for quite a long time. We need a left-footed player that could help us both in attack and defence and having more depth in our squad, so this specific defender dominating the left foot was important for us.

"The fact that she maybe needed us as well as a platform, that was a good combination to give her the trust again and give her a good environment to shine again.

"We were seeing her shining at the beginning when she arrived at Arsenal and before at Gotham, so we are expecting her to, with a bit of time until she gets back to be 100 per cent and feeling really with the rhythm, she can help us.

"It's having more options to have this high-intensity football that we are asking of our wing-backs, so that's part of what we want from Jenna.

"With Oriane, it's the same intention - bringing some depth to the squad, bringing some physicality. It's a very pure defensive profile but with really good qualities in possession, so she can do both.

"She can help us to give balance, she can help us to be consistent, to win duels. We are bringing the game sometimes to these physical battles, so we want our players in the central channel to be strong and she's a very good profile.

"She played an amazing Euros and again, we were following her and it was the opportunity to have her in the squad. We are expecting her to bring her quality, bring her ambition and help us to be stronger as a team."

Celtic complete Cvancara deal

Celtic have confirmed the signing of Tomas Cvancara on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach for the remainder of this season.

There is also an option to buy the 25-year-old Czech Republic striker at the end of the season.

"I am so excited to get started and make my own contribution to the team," the player told the club's website.

"We have lots of challenges ahead of us and I am ready to get going and do everything I can to meet these and bring success to our brilliant supporters.

"Celtic is one of the great names in world football and I am delighted to be here to play my part."

Burnley seeking Ward-Prowse, no plans to let players leave

Icon

Latest from Your Site News' Ben Ransom:

Talks between Burnley and West Ham have taken place regarding a move for James Ward-Prowse, but nothing is expected to develop before the Clarets face Spurs this weekend.

Midfield is the priority position to strengthen following captain Josh Cullens season-ending ACL injury.

Burnley have a full 25-man Premier League squad so would have to either allow players to leave, or unregister a senior player to make room for any new arrivals.

Ward-Prowse would be a straight replacement for Cullen in the squad.

In recent days, Burnley have had interest in full-back Oliver Sonne, who has not started a Premier League game since the opening match of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.

Theres also continued interest in Hjalmar Ekdal and Quilindschy Hartman.

Burnley will not allow any of those players to leave without having a replacement lined up, otherwise it would leave them short of defensive options.

They will only look to bring in players who can improve the first-team, and who they believe would fit into their close-knit squad as they continue to fight to avoid relegation.

Roma to begin pursuit of Zirkzee this week

Icon

Roma will begin preparing a proposal for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee this week, according to Sky Italy.

They have been waiting in the wings to move for the forward while United had Bryan Mbeumo away at AFCON and the change of head coach at Old Trafford needed time to conclude.

Roma would prefer to sign Zirkzee initially on loan, with a right to buy him if certain conditions are met, but a deal is not straightforward and the preference of the player is to stay and fight for his place,Your Site Newsreported earlier in the window.

Your Site Newsrevealed earlier this month that United were aware of Romas interest but are not thought to be actively looking to sell Zirkzee when the transfer window opens, and he has recently made an impact in the team.

However, against Manchester City in Michael Carricks first game in charge, Zirkzee was not even in the matchday squad. It was said he had a minor injury.

A strong Roma advance will almost certainly test the resolve of both player and club if it comes.

Everton, Forest keen on Isidor

Icon

Latest from Your Site News' Lyall Thomas:

Everton and Nottingham Forest have enquired about Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor

No concrete approach has been made yet as both clubs are also considering or waiting on other targets, whom are on this list.

The Frenchman also has interest in him from multiple clubs overseas, and he is one to watch with 11 days left of this window.

The 25-year-olds contract is up in 2028 and he has fallen down the striking pecking order at Sunderland behind Brian Brobbey and sometimes Eleizer Mayenda.

Isidore has not been in a Premier League squad since New Years Day and has not started two games in a row since November.

Therefore, Isidor has scored ony four Premier League goals this season, and none since October.
